When the dish needs a blast of heat!
You have to treat the habanero with care: too much in a dish and all you will taste is the overpowering flavour of chilli. It's one of the hottest peppers you can buy at the shops. At EAT ME we use our own, convenient ‘hot scale’ to express how hot chillies are. On our scale the habanero merits a score of 9. So it packs a punch!
The habanero looks cute and resembles a small, sweet pepper. Coming in bright colours such as red and yellow, you could also confuse the EAT ME habanero with a sunny little lantern. The habanero originates from the Caribbean and Central America. This immediately explains its name: habanero means 'from Havana’.

Remember, preparing hot peppers requires good preparation. Rub your hands with a little oil to prevent skin irritation. Then you can wash the habanero pepper and finely slice or chop it. After preparation, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and do not rub your eyes.

EAT ME habanero peppers come from the Netherlands, Spain and Morocco. Habanero peppers are grown from seed to plant by propagators. They are then transferred to pots (Spain and Morocco). or stone wool slabs (the Netherlands). Once the plants are large enough, they grow on in open fields or in a greenhouse.
After 6-8 weeks they are ready for harvest. The vibrant red or yellow colour shows that the peppers are ready to be picked.
